Christ the King Children’s Service (Sunday School) was established mainly to fulfill this mandate. The liturgy for the day is explained to the children at their level. After Mass the celebrant for the youth Mass is expected to come over to the classroom to bless the children. The Children’s Service was started in the 1980’s in the Parish Hall by the Charismatic Renewal. It evolved into the Youth Mass under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Wels. In 1998, the Children’s Service as we have it now was started with the guidance of Rev. Fr. Edmund Neizer. The Christ the King Children’s Service (Sunday School) handles Children between the ages of 2 – 10 years old. The children who attend this service are non-communicants who have not started Catechism classes.
The children are grouped into three classes:
i. The Little Angels’ Class (ages 2- 5) an average of 80 or more every Sunday.
ii. The Cherubim Class (ages 6 -7) an average of 40 to 50 every Sunday
iii. The Seraphim’s Class (ages 8 years and above) an average of 30 to 40 every Sunday These figures could actually go very high most Sundays.The children are handled by Sunday School Teachers and Teaching assistants who help by assisting the children with their biological needs.The president of the Christ the King Sunday School is Dr. Edith Clarke assisted by Mrs. Abena Safoa Ofori.
Christ the King Catechists handle Catechumen for all the three Sacraments of initiation. Catechism classes run on Sundays after the 8:00 am. Mass and on Mondays at 6:00 pm. The Monday 6:00 pm Class is the Adult Catechism Class. The leader of the Catechists is Mrs. Abena Safoa Ofori
There are two first Holy Communion Classes and one Confirmation Class. The two (2) First Holy Communion classes have a total of about 80 Catechumens and the Confirmation class has 30 Catechumen. The Monday Class, the Adult class has about 30 Catechumen.
